HVLP Atomization for Corrosion-Control Finishing
The air cap directs compressed air around the coating as it leaves the fluid nozzle. Its precision air passages and horn openings control atomization, pattern shape, and fan development.
The C.A. Technologies 22-1046 air cap is engineered for the Series 200H HVLP platform. When matched with the correct fluid nozzle and needle, it helps the Lynx 200H produce a controlled spray pattern for industrial topcoats and corrosion-control materials.
Features
- Series 200H HVLP air cap
- Made for pressure-feed spray applications
- Compatible with the Lynx 200H corrosion-control gun
- Supports a 1.4 mm fluid-tip configuration
- Approximately 22 CFM air consumption
- Supports an approximately 11-inch maximum pattern under proper conditions
- C.A. Technologies part number 22-1046
Benefits
- Improve atomization: Correct airflow helps break the coating into a controlled and uniform spray.
- Maintain pattern consistency: Proper horn air supports an even fan from top to bottom.
- Support transfer efficiency: Correct HVLP setup helps place more coating on the part with less uncontrolled overspray.
- Handle industrial topcoats: The listed 1.4 mm configuration works with many enamels, urethanes, and waterborne finishes.
- Restore gun performance: Replacing a worn or damaged air cap can correct pattern problems that cleaning alone cannot solve.
Compatible Spray Gun
- Gun: C.A. Technologies Lynx 200H
- Feed type: Pressure feed
- Technology: HVLP
- Application: Corrosion-control finishing
Important: Match the air cap to the spray gun model, fluid nozzle, fluid needle, coating viscosity, and desired pattern. Similar C.A. Technologies air caps may fit the retaining ring but provide different airflow and atomization characteristics.
Required Fluid-Nozzle Series
The 22-1046 air cap must be used with a compatible C.A. Technologies 32-02XX fluid nozzle. Confirm the complete fluid-nozzle and needle combination before ordering or installing the air cap.
- Listed fluid-tip size: 1.4 mm
- Required nozzle family: 32-02XX
Typical Coating Materials
- Industrial enamels
- Urethane coatings
- Waterborne topcoats
- Medium-viscosity primers
- Protective industrial coatings
- Corrosion-control finishes
Air Requirements
- Nominal air consumption: Approximately 22 CFM
- Published airflow: 22.5 CFM at 47 PSI
- Maximum listed inlet pressure: 47 PSI
The compressor and air-delivery system must supply the required airflow at the spray gun. A compressor can display adequate static pressure while failing to deliver enough CFM through undersized hose, restrictive fittings, dirty filters, or inadequate piping.
Set atomizing pressure with the gun triggered and air flowing. Begin at the lowest pressure that produces acceptable atomization, then make controlled adjustments to air pressure, fluid pressure, and fan width.
Signs an Air Cap Needs Attention
Inspect the air cap when the spray pattern becomes heavy on one side, split, distorted, inconsistent, or difficult to adjust. Dried coating inside the horn openings or center air passages can create many of the same symptoms as a damaged cap.
Clean blocked passages with the recommended solvent and a nonmetallic air-cap cleaning tool. Never use drill bits, wire, or other hard metal objects that can enlarge or deform the precision openings.
Installation and Setup
Completely relieve air and fluid pressure before removing the existing air cap. Inspect the fluid nozzle, retaining ring, air-cap seating surfaces, and cap openings for coating buildup, wear, or damage.
Install the 22-1046 squarely over the compatible 32-02XX fluid nozzle. Tighten the retaining ring only enough to hold the cap securely while still allowing pattern orientation.
After installation, test the spray pattern and adjust atomizing air, fluid pressure, and fan control for the coating being sprayed.
