Over the years, I've seen more spray equipment damage caused by one tool than almost any other, and it might already be sitting in your toolbox.
That tool? A pair of pliers.
It's easy to reach for pliers when you're in a hurry, but using them on your spray gun, especially when removing or servicing the fluid nozzle, can turn a simple maintenance job into an expensive repair.
Air spray and HVLP spray guns depend on precision components working together correctly. Fluid nozzles, needles, air caps, and their mating surfaces must remain clean and undamaged for the gun to perform as designed.
One slip of the jaws of a pair of pliers can scar or deform a precision component. Damage can lead to poor sealing, irregular material delivery, distorted spray patterns, fluttering, uneven atomization, and premature replacement of parts.
Use the Right Tool for the Job
Always use the manufacturer-recommended wrench or service tool when removing or installing a fluid nozzle.
The proper tool is designed to engage the component correctly and allows you to service the spray gun without unnecessarily damaging precision surfaces.
While you're servicing the gun, inspect the fluid nozzle, needle, air cap, threads, and mating surfaces for dried coating, wear, or damage before reassembly.
