The One Tool That Should Never Be in Your Toolbox
Air Spray Tech Consulting | Tech Corner
Over the years, I’ve seen more spray equipment damage caused by one tool than any other—and it might already be sitting in your toolbox.
That tool? A pair of pliers.
It’s easy to reach for pliers when you're in a hurry, but using them on your spray gun—especially to remove the fluid nozzle—is a costly mistake. Both air spray and HVLP spray guns rely on precise metal-to-metal sealing between the fluid nozzle and the interior seat of the air cap. This seal is critical for proper spray performance.
Just one slip of a pliers’ jaws can scar the nozzle surface, compromise the seal, and distort the spray pattern—leading to fluttering, uneven coating, and expensive replacements.
🔧 Pro Tip:
Always use the manufacturer-recommended wrench when removing or servicing the fluid nozzle. It’s designed to grip correctly without damaging the sealing surfaces.
Don’t let a $5 tool cost you hundreds in lost time, material waste, and part replacements.
Ditch the pliers. Protect your equipment. Spray smarter.
